List Of Auto Surbo Cars

This is the list of automatic cars done at the HQ in Singapore and Malaysia and is not exhaustive. As the air intakes for autos and manuals are the same, if we have installed the Surbo for the manual cars in Car List, we can also fit it into the automatic versions.

Main Benefits Of Surbo On Automatics

    1. Instant take off from standstill with less clutch slip due to more torque.
    2. Higher revs possible due to higher air density.
    3. Instant gear kickdown (eg. gear 4 to 3, 3 to 2, even 2 to 1) with just part throttle.
    4. Gear change up at a lower rpm due to higher torque.
    5. Lighter throttle giving comfort and fuel saving.

    For Quick Acceleration

    1. With the Surbo fitted, for standing starts in D, press the accelerator to 1/4 and the car reacts immediately (less slip required due to stronger engine). Once the car has taken off to around 2500 rpm, hold the accelerator at 1/4 for 1 sec (the Surbo starts spinning the air, making a pressure and vibrating the accelerator pedal, while the car body pushes the engine across the gear gap). Upon feeling this vibration and approaching 3000 rpm, press the accelerator to 1/2 to reach the max rpm in D mode (the max depends on the gearbox program, with cars like Kias and some Hyundais being able to hit 6000 rpm even in D). After the max, gearchange occurs and the cycle can be repeated.

    For Relaxed Driving

For easy acceleration, just press the throttle slightly for an instant start from standstill, ease off the accelerator and press back slightly to change gear upwards (1-2, 2-3, 3-4) at a lower rpm than normal, or let the gearbox change automatically. The accelerator will be lighter than normal so giving comfort and fuel savings.

    For Gear Kickdown Or Revving

When a lower gear (and higher rpm) is desired for acceleration while on the move (say gear 4 to 3, 3 to 2, or even 2 to 1), press accelerator to 1/2, and the gearchange down will be achieved. To extend the revving in the same gear, pump the accelerator very slightly around the 1/2 way point to make the Surbo spin the air harder, and rev till the gearbox changes the gear up automatically. A double kickdown can be achieved, a gear at a time.

    Twin Surbo Auto List

The Twin Surbo (with 10% more torque than the single Surbo from 2500-3000 rpm) has been installed and is running well on these autos. It is recommended that just one Surbo be tried the first time to ensure that the system has no leak (indicated by more power and fuel savings) before adding another Surbo for the Twin.

    Citroen C5 2.0 (120km more per tank),
    Honda City '00, '94 CRX 1.6
    Hyundai Matrix 1.6 and 1.8,
Kia '06 Carens CVVT 2.0, '04-'06 Cerato, Spectra and '06 Picanto 1.1, and '03 Magentis 2.0A which achieved 100km more per tank with a Twin Surbo.
    Mazda '00 Premacy, Mazda 2 and 3.
    Nissan '01-'06 Sunny, '96 March 1.0 and '02 Prairie,
    Proton Saga, Gen2
    Toyota '99 Echo 1.0, '06 Yaris, '04 Ist 1.3, Estima 2.4 '00-'06, and '06 Toyota Yaris 1.5
    Subaru Impreza '00-'06
    Renault '98 Scenic 1.6.

Tip: Add a boost gauge to help you control the Surbo (this helps you to maintain a constant air-fuel pressure ratio for more power from the engine). Tested on an automatic Toyota Corolla Altis with very good surges in D mode, when the meter was pointed at -5 InHg, and a very light throttle for economy when moving off at -10 InHg. Highly recommended if you want the maximum power possible from your auto car by pressing minimally on the accelerator.
Similar results for the guage on a '98 Honda Civic SiR 1.6A owned by customer Wilson. Sweet spots ranged from -12 InHg to -8 InHg (max Surbo sensitivity). Top speed went up to at least 230kph (up from 180kph) and economy was also improved--it ran 400km instead of the original 300km per tank.

    Shifting Gears Manually (Optional)

If you have a tiptronic gearbox or Selespeed, you can control the gearchange completely, by shifting the gear lever so you can rev to the red line easily, with half throttle as in manual Surbo cars. The activation method (footwork) in How It Works applies.
If you have a conventional gearbox: Select L (or gear 1), and you can take the engine to red line with just half throttle, and then repeat in gear 2. To be able to rev this way even in 3rd, select overdrive (O/D) off and D. This applies to gearboxes with no distinct gear 3 slot (just L-2-D). Once you have revved enough, select overdrive on to have low rpm cruising in D.

    Achieving Top Speed

To get to the top speed, instead of trying from 4th gear, it is faster if you select O/D off, thereby locking into 3rd gear, revving to the maximum and then switching back to 4th gear (by putting O/D back on). This way, both a Nissan Sunny 1.5A and a Toyota Corolla 1.5A achieved 220 kph with a Surbo.

Reports From Automatic Car Owners With Surbo

    * '02 Citroen C5 2.0 owner reported 10% fuel savings. Recorded on car computer.

*Fiat Punto 1.3 Selespeed ran at 19 km/l (orig 12 km/l) with Twin Surbo.

    * '98 Ford Laser 1.6 hit top speed of 197 kph, up from 170+ kph. * Honda SiR 1.6: max speed first gear was 50 kph originally, but 80+ kph with Surbo at half throttle at 8000 rpm.
Max speed top (4th) gear: 180 kph original, 200+ with Surbo activated from 4th gear.
Boost guage-aided, this car hit 230kph and returned 400km per tank (orig 300km per tank).

*Twin Surbo took both 1.6 and 1.8 automatic Hyundai Matrices to 14 kpl.

*Hyundai Matrix 1.6 owner said he went up the Genting Highlands peak (1772m) in D mode only, using Twin Surbos.

    *Mazda 2 with Twin Surbo got 14.8 km/l (originally 13 km/l).

    * Mazda 323 1.6: more responsive throttle. 10% fuel saving

    * Mitsubishi Airtrek customer reported 10% fuel savings.

    * '06 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 CVT (continuously variable transmission) with Surbo required only 2500 rpm to reach 110 kph, vs 3500 rpm originally for the same speed. It could also cruise at 130 kph at only 2400 rpm. This was due to the Surbo's extra torque, which allowed longer gearing. The consumption was 12 km per litre. Reported by owner Mr Mike Yeo

    * '91 Nissan Sunny 1.6: 420 km/tank with no Surbo, 440-450km/tank with Surbo.

    * '91 Toyota Corolla 1.6i owner saved 20% fuel (achieved 300km versus 250km at the same point).

    * Toyota Wish achieved 100km more per tank with a Surbo.
