The way to reduce diesel smoke is simply to press less on the accelerator, yet gain engine torque. Our method of smoke reduction involves using the Surbo (air suction turbo), which with jets and a vortex, is able to draw in more air during acceleration, to match the increased diesel injected then, due to added foot pressure on the accelerator.
Surbo fitted in the pipe after the air filter of 2008 Peugeot Expert 2.0 turbodiesel, and testimonial from the owner.
Diesel smoke can often come from driving habits. Many drivers will start off in 2nd gear, because they feel that first gear is too short, and often change up to the next gear around 2000 rpm, which may be too soon because the next gear starts at a lower rpm, where the engine may not have developed its full torque. The result is that the accelerator is pressed too much, and with the low rpm, little air is induced, and it is not able to combine fully with the excessive diesel. Therefore, lots of smoke can be produced.
First gear is used, instead of second gear, for initial acceleration. The shorter gearing means it is easier for the engine to turn, and the Surbo's added air pressure means higher revs, so making this gear a useful gear for the open road. The engine could reach 5000 rpm with just half accelerator pressure, due to the Surbo charging the air. As there is higher rpm, there is more air to mop up the diesel, so reducing diesel smoke. The higher revs means that subsequent gears start from a higher, stronger rpm, so that less of the accelerator needs to be pressed.
Some drivers think that revving high may be bad for the engine, but they do not realize that diesel engines are stronger than petrol engines, which operate at higher rpm all the time. In fact, diesel engines can go hundreds of thousands of miles without repair, so letting them rev higher to get more speed and reduce smoke is quite all right. Furthermore, fuel is saved due to the lessened accelerator pressure because of the Surbo.
So, if you have a diesel vehicle, and you need to get more power, save some diesel, reduce smoke, or all of the above, the Surbo is ideal for your vehicle. Contact us for a try.
